Matisha Dentu, Ph.D., is set to join Regent University as a full-time Assistant Professor in Practical Theology and Spiritual Formation at the School of Divinity, starting July 1, 2024. She holds a Ph.D. in Theology and Worship from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Master of Divinity from Virginia Union University. With over two decades of pastoral experience, Dr. Dentu has served as founding Pastor of the Living Faith Christian Center in Newport News, Virginia alongside her husband, Salvatore Dentu. Her research focuses on the intersection of African American spirituality, theological expression through spirituals, and narrative theology, as evidenced by her dissertation titled “Examining Spirituals as Vehicles of Narrative Theological Expressions for Nineteenth-Century African Americans.”
Dr. Dentu’s academic contributions bridge historical and contemporary theological practices, emphasizing worship studies and spiritual formation. She brings a wealth of practical ministry experience to her scholarly work, enriching her teaching and research in divinity and practical theology.
