Matilde Vivancos Machimbarrena

Dr. Matilde Vivancos Machimbarrena is a Full Professor at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). She holds a degree (1982) and PhD (1989) in Philosophy and Literature (English Philology) from the University of Valladolid. Her career includes roles as a Spanish lecturer at Mount Mercy College (Ireland) and faculty positions at the University of Valladolid and UCM, where she obtained her professorship via competitive examination in 1993.

Her research focuses on:

• Translation: Specialized text translation between English and Spanish
• Contrastive Linguistics: English-Spanish structural comparisons
• Morpho-syntax: Analysis of word formation and sentence structure

She is currently preparing an annotated translation of Oliver Goldsmith's The Vicar of Wakefield.

Awards include:

• Research Personnel Training Fellowship from Spain's Ministry of Education and Science (1983)

She coordinates and teaches courses in English Language, Syntax, Morphology, Translation, and English-Spanish Contrastive Studies across undergraduate and doctoral programs. She is a member of UCM research groups focused on translation and e-learning innovation.
