معرفی
Mathilde ROGEZ is a Lecturer at the University of Toulouse – Jean Jaurès, affiliated with the Centre for Anglophone Studies (CAS), a research structure specializing in African studies. She teaches British, American, and Commonwealth literature from the 17th to the 21st centuries, with a focus on South African literature and translation. Her academic profile is deeply rooted in postcolonial literary studies, particularly the cultural and literary dynamics of post-apartheid South Africa.
Her research explores the representation of urban and rural landscapes in South African fiction and photography, the interplay between novel and drama, and the literary engagement with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). She investigates how confession, trauma, and memory are mediated through artistic forms, especially in the works of authors like J.M. Coetzee, Nadine Gordimer, and Deon Meyer. Her recent publications analyze the transformation of the plaasroman (Afrikaans pastoral novel) in contemporary eco-fiction and dystopian narratives, as well as the adaptation of Shakespearean texts in post-apartheid theatre.
The thematic trends in her 15 most recent articles reveal a sustained focus on South African literary responses to historical trauma, political reconciliation, and environmental crisis. She frequently examines genre evolution—especially the plaasroman and the historical novel—and intertextuality, particularly Shakespearean hypotexts in modern drama. Her work bridges literary analysis with cultural history, spatial theory, and performance studies.
Mathilde ROGEZ holds significant editorial responsibilities, serving on the editorial boards of Commonwealth, Essays and Studies, Miranda, and the Journal of the Short Story in English. She is actively involved in academic outreach, co-organizing the seminar series Les Afriques au pluriel and delivering public lectures and interventions for secondary education and cultural festivals. She has no listed scientific awards.
She advises on research and curriculum development, particularly in the context of post-apartheid literature, and contributes to teacher training programs. Her leadership in organizing seminars and public events demonstrates a strong commitment to knowledge dissemination and interdisciplinary collaboration. She is a member of the CAS Council and the SAES Research Commission (2015–2023), and has held roles in website management and budget coordination for her research unit.
Her work is embedded within the collaborative research environment of the Centre for Anglophone Studies (CAS), which fosters interdisciplinary projects on destabilization, hospitality, and crisis in the anglophone world. She participates in multiple research axes and seminars, including ACT, ARTLab, and Cin&MA, and contributes to the unit’s training programs for doctoral candidates and young researchers.
