Mathilde Knight, Ph.D., is a Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), specializing in genomics, molecular biology, and infectious diseases. Her research focuses on the genetic factors influencing schistosomiasis susceptibility in mollusks, contributing to understanding host-parasite interactions and disease control.
- Education: Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry.
Her research spans molecular mechanisms of gene expression, Schistosoma mansoni biology, and environmental health impacts on disease transmission. Recent work examines the roles of PIWI and HOP proteins in snail immunity.
Notable contributions include international keynote presentations and leadership as Director for Research in UDC's Master of Science in Biology: Cancer Biology Prevention and Control program. She has secured significant grants from institutions like the National Institutes of Health (NIH), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Sandler Foundation.
- 2019: Recognized for Accomplishment in Research/Scholarship by UDC's College of Arts and Sciences.
- 2019: Technology All-Star Award from Women of Color in STEM.
Dr. Knight also serves as Associate Editor for Plos Neglected Tropical Diseases and Plos ONE, and has participated in NIH review panels since 1996.
