Mathias Trabandt

Mathias Trabandt is a Professor of Macroeconomics at Goethe University Frankfurt, where he holds the Chair of Macroeconomics at the House of Finance. He is also a Research Fellow at the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) and the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). His work has been featured in prominent publications including The New York Times, Washington Post, and Science.

Professor Trabandt's research focuses on macroeconomics, monetary economics, public economics, labor economics, international macroeconomics, financial frictions, applied econometrics, and epidemics. His work often bridges theoretical macroeconomic modeling with empirical analysis, particularly examining business cycles, monetary policy transmission, and the economic impacts of pandemics. He serves as an Associate Editor at the Review of Economic Dynamics and is a member of the Epidemic Macro Model Database project with Volker Wieland and team.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on post-pandemic economic dynamics, including inflation patterns, inequality effects, and the interaction between health outcomes and economic activity. Trabandt frequently collaborates with leading economists such as Martin Eichenbaum and Sergio Rebelo, producing influential work on epidemic macroeconomics that has shaped policy discussions worldwide.

He organizes the Goethe Macro Training School and has conducted numerous workshops for central bankers worldwide, including at institutions like the National University of Singapore, International Monetary Fund, and various central banks across the globe. His research has practical applications for monetary policy formulation, particularly in crisis situations and during periods of economic transition.
