Mathias Thaler is Professor of Political Theory in the School of Social and Political Science at the University of Edinburgh and a Visiting Researcher at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (SCAS). His academic work centers on contemporary political theory with interdisciplinary applications across democratic institutions and ethical frameworks.
Thaler's research examines the intersections of political violence, democratic theory, and moral philosophy. His scholarship critically analyzes populism, human rights frameworks, and the ethical boundaries of state violence through both theoretical and empirical lenses.
