Mathias Schulze is a Professor of German Language and Literature in the Department of European Studies at San Diego State University (SDSU), and Director of the Language Acquisition Resource Center. He holds a PhD in Language Engineering (Applied Linguistics) from UMIST (now part of the University of Manchester). His career includes roles at universities in Sunderland, Manchester (UK), and Waterloo (Canada), where he directed the Waterloo Centre for German Studies. He has served as co-editor of the CALICO Journal (on Computer-Assisted Language Learning) for eight years.
