Mathias Hoffmann is a Professor of International Trade and Finance at the University of Zurich’s Department of Economics. His research focuses on macroeconomic aspects of international financial integration, asset markets, and the broader linkages between finance and the macroeconomy. He has held visiting positions at institutions including the Deutsche Bundesbank, Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research, and Keio University, and is a CESifo Network Fellow. Hoffmann’s work examines topics such as capital flows, banking regulation, and risk-sharing mechanisms in the Eurozone, with notable contributions to understanding the impacts of financial integration on economic reallocation and stability.
Education: PhD in Economics from the European University Institute (Florence), undergraduate studies at WHU Koblenz, Brandeis University, and the University of Bonn.
Research Interests: Hoffmann explores how international financial integration shapes economies, particularly through channels like banking deregulation, trade shocks, and monetary policy.
