Mathew Schwartz

Mathew Schwartz is an Associate Professor at the School of Art and Design, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). He has held prior roles, including Assistant Professor at the Hillier College of Arch and Design. His research focuses on interdisciplinary areas at the intersection of robotics, human-centered design, and urban planning. Key projects include NSF-funded initiatives such as Modeling Equitable and Accessible Public Spaces and Cognitive Models of Human Social Wayfinding.

His research interests span robotic systems, infrastructure modeling, design education, and human factors in architectural design. Notable contributions include microscopic modeling of movement behaviors in retail environments and torque-based reinforcement learning for bipedal robots. He collaborates extensively with experts in computer science, engineering, and urban studies.

Dr. Schwartz has secured two federal grants from the National Science Foundation, spanning projects from 2021 to 2026. His work has been featured in media outlets, including coverage of tele-existence androids and 3D modeling advancements.
