Mathew Coleman is an Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia (UWA) in the Psychiatry department of the UWA Medical School. His work focuses on mental health systems, rural healthcare access, and Aboriginal health, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being. Research emphasizes chronic conditions in mental health patients, perinatal psychiatric emergencies in rural settings, and culturally safe mental health systems for Indigenous youth. He has led or collaborated on six major grants including projects on trauma-informed care in the Kimberley region and clinical coding for Aboriginal health services.
