Emma Carlin is a Senior Research Fellow at the UWA Medical School, Rural Clinical School, affiliated with The University of Western Australia. She holds a PhD in mental health screening approaches for perinatal Aboriginal women, a Master's in Participatory Development from ANU, and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from the University of Queensland. Her research focuses on Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB), particularly within Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACHHS). She leads the Wellbeing Informed Care-Kimberley project and collaborates with Prof. Pat Dudgeon's Transforming Indigenous Mental Health Team. Emma also works part-time as Senior Research Officer at Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services, advancing culturally secure mental health practices like the Kimberley Mum’s Mood Scale. She has secured grants from the Department of Health and MRFF to improve healthcare systems and screening protocols in rural and Indigenous communities. Her work emphasizes participatory methods and health equity across multiple projects.
Key research areas include health services evaluation, mental health policy, and perinatal care. She has authored reports on regional alcohol plans, clinical coding practices, and workforce wellbeing. Emma’s projects often involve national collaborations and aim to enhance healthcare access and cultural safety for Aboriginal communities.
