Massimo Antonio Fazio

Massimo Antonio Fazio is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering with joint appointment in Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His research investigates intraocular pressure (IOP) and structural changes in the eye related to age, race, and ocular diseases like glaucoma.

Dr. Fazio has developed novel imaging techniques including the Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometer to measure scleral deformations. His work bridges mechanical engineering principles with ophthalmology to understand biomechanical factors in glaucoma, myopia, and keratoconus.

He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calabria (Italy) and completed postdoctoral training at Devers Eye Institute. Professional memberships include ARVO, ISER, and the Optical Society of America.
