Masoud Torkan is a Visiting Professor at Aalto University's Department of Civil Engineering and Mineral Based Materials and Mechanics. His research focuses on rock engineering, photogrammetry, and fluid-structure interactions in fractured media. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering (2024) from Aalto University and an MSc in Engineering from Isfahan University of Technology (2015).
His expertise includes advanced digital tools for rock mass characterization, such as photogrammetry and LiDAR, and their applications in geotechnical projects like tunnel mapping and fracture analysis. He has pioneered methods for rapid, low-cost field measurements and developed virtual learning environments to enhance geotechnical education.
Key research interests encompass hydro-mechanical properties of rock fractures, scale effects on fluid flow, and fracture roughness modeling. Over 22 peer-reviewed publications and conference contributions highlight his work in these areas. He actively collaborates on international projects, contributing to sustainable development goals in infrastructure and resource efficiency.
His articles analyze topics like 3D fracture surface reconstruction, numerical modeling of fluid dynamics, and educational technology integration in civil engineering training programs. Ongoing projects focus on improving field data collection and advancing digital tools for real-time geotechnical analysis.
