Mason Kuhn

Mason Kuhn is an Associate Professor at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in the Department of Elementary and Middle Level Education under the College of Education. With a career spanning over 25 years as an elementary classroom teacher, he now focuses on preparing future educators and advancing research in science pedagogy.

• Education: BA in Elementary Education (Coe College), MA in Science Education (Walden University), MA in Special Education (University of North Dakota), EdD in Curriculum and Instruction (UNI).

Kuhn’s research centers on dialogic feedback in elementary science classrooms, exploring how peer-driven discussions enhance learning. He investigates the correlation between teachers’ understanding of knowledge creation in science and their ability to implement dialogic feedback effectively, driven by his classroom experiences.

His scientific award highlights his excellence in mathematics and science teaching, including the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, where he met President Obama.
