Masatoshi INOUE is a PhD candidate and Research Fellow at the School for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (EHESS), affiliated with the Centre Alexandre-Koyré (CAK). He holds a bachelor's degree from Kobe University and a master's degree from EHESS, specializing in the history of science, technology, and society. His research focuses on nuclear history, technonationalism, and the societal impact of atomic energy, particularly in Japan and France.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Intercultural Studies, Kobe University (2012–2016)
- Master's in History of Science at EHESS (2016–2019)
- Doctoral Contract at EHESS (since 2019)
Research Interests: Nuclear history, technological nationalism, atomic energy policy, disaster studies, and the interplay between science, technology, and society. His doctoral thesis examines France’s atomic progress through the lens of perceptions of damage, analyzing how Hiroshima/Nagasaki tragedies were framed in national narratives.
Awards:
- 2020 FFJ/Christian Polak Prize for his master’s thesis on Japanese nuclear development and technonationalism.
He co-organized the 2021 conference « Penser Fukushima: ruptures et continuités de la catastrophe » and has published in Artefact. His work bridges Japanese and French nuclear histories, exploring how national identity and technological ambition shape energy policies.
