María de las Nieves Piña Capó

Dr. María de las Nieves Piña Capó is a Full Professor at the Department of Chemistry (Organic Chemistry area) of the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) since June 2022. She serves as Director of the UIB's Center for Postgraduate Studies (CEP) since September 2021 and previously directed the Master's Degree in Occupational Health (April 2020–June 2022) and managed its academic operations (2009–2020).

Education:

• BSc in Chemistry, UIB (1998), with Excellent (1999)
• PhD in Organic Chemistry, UIB (2005), cum laude
• Master's in Occupational Health (2010), specializing in Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene

Research Interests: Focuses on synthetic receptors based on squaramide units, fluorescent/UV-Vis sensors, synthesis and application of iron/gold/silver nanoparticles for environmental and occupational pollutant monitoring, occupational exposure assessment to VOCs/heavy metals/particulate matter, development of scavengers for VOCs/PAHs/radionuclides, and theoretical/experimental studies on Halogen and Regium Bonds.

Scientific Recognition:

• Three six-year research recognitions (June 2025)
• Two five-year teaching recognitions (January 2025)

Academic Leadership: Co-directed 4 PhD theses (2013, 2018, January 2022, July 2022) and tutored 19 Master's theses in Occupational Health (2010–2025), 3 in Chemical Science and Technology, and 4 in Chemistry. She has been Principal Investigator for the consolidated R&D group SUPRANANO (Supramolecular and Nanocapture Systems).
