María Jesús Álvarez Torres

Dr. María Jesús Álvarez Torres is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). She teaches a wide range of mathematics courses across multiple degree programs including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and various Engineering degrees.

Her academic background includes a Degree in Mathematics from the University of the Balearic Islands (1999) and a PhD from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2006).

Dr. Álvarez Torres specializes in Dynamical Systems, with particular focus on the Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations. Her research interests include planar differential equations, limit cycles, the 16th Hilbert problem, and Abel equations. She is an active member of the Dynamical Systems (SSDD) research group at UIB and participates in the Spanish national network DANCE (Dinámica, Atractores y Nolinealidad: Caos y Estabilidad) in nonlinear dynamics. She also belongs to the IAC3 Institute for Applied Computing.

She has been involved in several significant research projects including "Oscillatory behaviors in dynamical systems. Bifurcations, techniques and applications" (PID2020-118726GB-I00), "Qualitative study of dynamic systems and their applications, with emphasis in neuroscience" (MTM2017-83568-P), and "Qualitative study of dynamical systems and their applications. Periodic behavior and bifurcations" (MTM2014-54275-P). She has also contributed to organizing major conferences in her field such as AQTDE2019 and RTNS2019.

Dr. Álvarez Torres teaches numerous courses including Mathematics I, Ordinary Differential Equations, and specialized courses on Dynamical Systems. She serves as a thesis advisor for PhD students in Information and Communications Technology.
