Maryna Povitkina is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Oslo, where she has worked since 2019. She also holds a part-time (20%) postdoctoral researcher position at the Centre for Collective Action Research at the University of Gothenburg since 2018. Her academic work bridges comparative politics, environmental governance, and institutional theory, focusing on the interplay between democracy, corruption, and public goods provision.

Maryna’s research explores how democratic institutions, quality of government, and corruption affect environmental policy outcomes, natural disaster preparedness, and energy provision in small island states. Her recent publications analyze democratization processes post-disasters, fairness perceptions in carbon taxation, and institutional barriers to climate action. Collaborations with researchers at Gothenburg, Melbourne, and Oslo reflect her interdisciplinary focus.
As course coordinator for STV4341 - Comparative Environmental Politics, she teaches courses on international environmental governance, quantitative methods, and political economy. Her affiliations include the Comparative Institutions and Regimes (CIR) research group, the Objections to Democracy (ODe) project, and the Interdisciplinary Corruption Research Network. Current projects like ACCELZ (Accelerating Climate Action) and ODe emphasize institutional solutions for climate and democratic challenges.
