Maryam Karimi is Special Faculty at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Architecture (College of Fine Arts), specializing in design ethics, climate adaptation, and the intersection of architecture with equity and sustainability. She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy and a practice-based Ph.D. in Visual Arts from York University, alongside degrees in Architecture and Architectural Science from the University of Waterloo.

Her research explores architecture’s role in climate justice, AI ethics, spatial politics of public protest, and decolonization. She bridges philosophical inquiry with creative practices in sculpture, installation art, and participatory design.
Teaching focuses on design ethics and critical global issues, including courses like 'Design Ethics & Social Justice in Architecture' and advanced studios integrating technology, environment, and cultural critique.
Her collaborative organization, The Fly-Bottle, fosters interdisciplinary dialogue on societal challenges through Wittgenstein-inspired critical reflection.
