Mary Wells

Mary Wells is a Professor of Practice in Cancer Nursing at Imperial College London's Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery & Cancer. She also serves as the Director of Nursing for Research and Academic Leadership at Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, with prior roles including Deputy Director of Nursing for Research at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (2017-2025).

• Masters in Cancer Care (Distinction, Institute of Cancer Research, 1995)
• PhD (University of Dundee, 2007)

Her research focuses on cancer rehabilitation and survivorship, emphasizing nursing's role in improving patient-reported outcomes and experiences. Methodologically, she specializes in qualitative research, complex interventions, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and contextual analysis.

Leadership roles include chairing the 'Impact and Metrics' subgroup of the Clinical Academic Research Implementation Network (CARIN), serving on the NIHR Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship panel, and former positions at the Imperial Health Charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, Royal College of Nursing, European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS), and NCRI groups.
