Mary Tanay

Mary Tanay is a Lecturer at King's College London's Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery with a focused research agenda in oncology nursing. Her work primarily centers on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), cancer supportive care, and nursing education innovations across Europe. She maintains active research collaborations internationally, with particular emphasis on Filipino nursing perspectives and healthcare delivery in diverse contexts.

Her research interests span multiple critical areas in contemporary oncology nursing including CIPN management, behavioral interventions for symptom control, patient and public involvement in cancer research, and innovative approaches to cancer nursing education. Dr. Tanay's work addresses significant gaps in understanding how to optimize cancer care delivery, particularly regarding treatment side effects and supportive care needs.

Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong thematic focus on patient experiences with chemotherapy side effects, particularly peripheral neuropathy, and developing evidence-based interventions to address these challenges. Her research increasingly incorporates global perspectives on cancer care disparities and the impact of environmental factors like climate change on healthcare delivery.

Dr. Tanay serves as Primary Investigator for the ReDMit project (2019-2022) funded by the NIHR National Institute for Health & Care Research, focused on co-designing behavioral interventions for CIPN management. She is also a Co-Investigator on an active project (2025-2026) with the Burdett Trust for Nursing addressing cultural barriers to breast cancer screening among South Asian women in the NHS.

Her research has been disseminated through numerous peer-reviewed publications, with significant contributions to journals including European Journal of Oncology Nursing, Journal of Clinical Medicine, and British Journal of Nursing. Dr. Tanay actively engages in international collaborative networks focused on advancing cancer supportive care and nursing practice.
