Dr. Mary Sweeney is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Galway, affiliated with the School of Languages, Literatures & Cultures within the College of Arts, Social Sciences, & Celtic Studies. Her research focuses on cross-cultural encounters and the transmission of classical knowledge, particularly in Hellenistic Judean literature and medieval Latin grammatical traditions.
She holds a PhD in Classics from the University of Galway (2023), where her thesis analyzed the Exagoge of Ezekiel, a Hellenistic Judean tragedy, to explore identity formation in multicultural Alexandria. Currently, she leads the Glossam project (2023–2025), funded by the Irish Research Council, examining European glossing traditions in Priscian’s sixth-century Latin grammar.
