Mary Robinson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and the inaugural Associate Dean of Outreach, Equity, and Diversity at the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Engineering. Her leadership focuses on advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, particularly for Indigenous and Black students, while integrating Indigenous ways of knowing into engineering education. Previously, she served as Associate Director of First Year Engineering, overseeing academic advising, examinations, and student support systems. Robinson is a Fellow of the Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA-ACEG) and has received multiple teaching and performance awards, including the EngSoc Teaching Excellence Award for innovative pedagogy.

Her recent focus includes indigenizing engineering curricula through collaborative research and pedagogical innovation.

Advising & Industrial Projects: Robinson has advised fourth-year design projects with industry partners such as Kraft Canada (biodegradable packaging, sodium reduction) and Mondelez (waste reduction). Her academic advising expertise includes managing first-year student transitions and promoting equity-minded policies.
Labs & Teams: She collaborates with the Ontario Network of Women in Engineering (ONWiE) and leads initiatives within the Faculty of Engineering’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee, fostering inclusive environments through policy development and community engagement.
