Mary Rimmer is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of New Brunswick specializing in Victorian literature. Her research examines narrative structures, women's writing, and post-colonial literatures, with a particular focus on Thomas Hardy's works.
Research interests include the literary representation of architecture and built environments, exploring how these elements reflect political, historical, and identity constructs in 19th-century Britain. She has edited Hardy's Desperate Remedies for Penguin Books and is preparing a scholarly edition of The Trumpet-Major for Cambridge University Press.
She has supervised MA and PhD theses on authors including Hardy, Brontë, Gaskell, Austen, and Dickens, covering topics from sensation fiction to fairy-tale motifs.
