Mary P Martinasek serves as Professor of Health Sciences and Human Performance and Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at The University of Tampa, leveraging her dual expertise as a Certified Asthma Educator, Certified Health Education Specialist, and Registered Respiratory Therapist to bridge academic research with community health initiatives.
Education: Dr. Martinasek holds an A.S. from Santa Fe Community College (1983), B.S. (2005), MPH (2007), and Ph.D. (2011) from the University of South Florida, forming the foundation for her interdisciplinary teaching in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Health Promotion.
Her research critically examines tobacco-related public health threats through social marketing and mixed methods approaches, with concentrated focus on asthma triggers, vaping epidemiology, inhalational marijuana effects, and waterpipe tobacco (hookah) smoking patterns. This work directly informs her community education efforts targeting lung health awareness among healthcare students and Tampa residents.
Dr. Martinasek's professional impact extends through founding the Tampa Bay Asthma Coalition, editorial board service for two peer-reviewed journals, and community outreach on motivational interviewing techniques. Her service has been recognized with:
