Mary M. Burke is a Professor of English at the University of Connecticut and Coordinator of the Irish Literature Concentration. Her scholarship intersects Irish and Irish-American literature, cultural history, and feminist studies, with a focus on marginalized communities like Irish Travellers. She has held prestigious fellowships at Notre Dame and Trinity College Dublin and contributes to public discourse via media outlets like the Irish Times and NPR.

Her research spans Irish modern drama, Joyce studies, and the transatlantic politics of Irish identity. Recent work includes Race, Politics, and Irish America: A Gothic History (2023), which examines ethnic hybridity through Gothic frameworks. Earlier books like Synge and the Cultural History of the Irish Traveller (2009) established her as a leading voice in Traveller representation studies.
Her publications bridge historical analysis and contemporary critique, with recurring themes of memory, gender, and diaspora. Articles address topics such as Grace Kelly's fashion symbolism, the "Tuam Babies" controversy in Tom Murphy's drama, and the influence of evolutionary theory on Synge.
