Mary Kaltenberg is an Assistant Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, Pace University, New York City. Her research lies at the intersection of labor and innovation economics, with a methodological focus on applied econometrics and large-scale data construction through web-scraping. She has collaborated with leading scholars at institutions such as Brandeis University, MIT Media Lab, and UNU-MERIT.

Her research interests include innovation dynamics, labor market outcomes, economic complexity, skill premiums, and gender disparities in invention. She investigates how cognitive and social skills affect wages, how automation impacts inequality, and how policies like maternity leave influence female inventors’ productivity. Her work integrates network theory and econometric modeling to explore structural inequality and knowledge diversity in industries.
Her recent publications examine age-related differences in patenting, the impact of maternity leave on female inventors, and new measures of economic complexity. She has published in Research Policy and Pacific Economic Review, and her working papers span topics from technological catch-up in developing nations to the wage premiums in knowledge-diverse industries.
