Mary K Bercaw Edwards

Mary K Bercaw Edwards is a Professor of English and Maritime Studies at the University of Connecticut’s Avery Point campus. She is a founding member of the Melville Society Cultural Project and serves as co-director of the digital humanities initiative 'Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick and the World of Whaling in the Digital Age,' supported by a National Endowment for the Humanities grant. Her work bridges literary analysis with historical and digital methodologies.

Her research focuses on 19th-century American literature, maritime culture, and the intersection of literature with global whaling practices. She actively contributes to interdisciplinary projects that digitize and contextualize historical materials, enhancing accessibility for scholarly and public audiences.
