Dr. Mary Hondalus is a Professor and holds multiple key roles at the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine. She serves as Assistant Dean of Preclinical Academic Affairs and Director of the DVM-MPH Dual Degree Program. Her academic background includes a DVM from Michigan State University, a Large Animal Internal Medicine Residency at Tufts University, a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Temple University, and postdoctoral work at Harvard School of Public Health focusing on tuberculosis vaccine development. Her research interests span microbial pathogenesis, particularly Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Rhodococcus equi, and vaccine development. She has led extramurally funded infectious disease research and trained graduate students. Recognized for teaching excellence, she has held fellowships in pedagogy and leadership. Her administrative work oversees first- and second-year veterinary curricula and collaborates with the College of Public Health for interdisciplinary programs.
