Mary Hatcher-Skeers is a Professor in the Chemistry department at the Keck Science Department of Claremont Colleges, where she holds the Sidney J. Weinberg, Jr. Chair in Natural Sciences. Her research focuses on NMR spectroscopy and DNA dynamics.
- Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, University of California at San Diego
- Master of Science in Chemistry, San Francisco State University
- Doctor of Philosophy in Physical Chemistry, University of Washington
Her research explores protein-DNA interactions, DNA methylation effects, and solid-state/solution NMR methodologies. Key studies include investigating oxygen diffusion in skin layers and chromophore dynamics in bacteriorhodopsin. She integrates service learning into chemistry education, as seen in her 2002 publication on student-driven demonstration projects.
- Recipient of the Sidney J. Weinberg, Jr. Chair in Natural Sciences
- Contributed to Grolier's New Book of Popular Science as an expert consultant
Hatcher-Skeers has mentored numerous students in laboratory settings and collaborated on multidisciplinary research, including projects on internuclear distance measurements in DNA and molecular dynamics simulations. Her teaching portfolio includes fundamental and advanced courses such as Physical Chemistry II, Advanced Laboratory, and NMR Spectroscopy.
