Mary Hall Reno is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Iowa. Her research focuses on theoretical particle physics, astroparticle physics, and neutrino interactions, with grants from the Department of Energy and NASA. She has served as Department Chair from 2009–2014 and holds the Erich Funke Professorship since 2021. Reno has been recognized with the Collegiate Fellow (2019), Dean's Scholar (2000), and Faculty Scholar (2003) awards.
- Education: PhD in Physics from Stanford University
- Postdoctoral Research: Fermi National Accelerator Center
- Visiting Faculty: Centro de Investigacion y Estudios Avanzados (Mexico City)
Her research interests include ultrahigh energy neutrinos, cross-section calculations for cosmic-ray and astrophysical neutrinos, and applications of perturbative QCD. She teaches at all levels and has mentored six PhD students. Reno’s work bridges accelerator experiments and cosmic phenomena, emphasizing interdisciplinary connections.
- Awards:
- Fellow of the American Physical Society
- Erich Funke Professor (2021–present)
Advising and grants: Reno has received funding from DOE and NASA, supported student research in particle/nuclear physics seminars, and developed computational skills training. Her research offices are in Van Allen Hall, Iowa City.
