Mary L. Fischer is a full professor of Accounting at the University of Texas at Tyler’s Soules College of Business. She specializes in financial accounting recognition and reporting, nonprofit organization financial management, and non-financial operating measures. She holds a Ph.D., M.A., and B.B.A. from the University of Connecticut.
Her research focuses on cash flow recognition, auditing, and financial management of not-for-profit organizations. She has published over eighty papers in journals like Journal of Accounting and Public Policy and Government Accounting Journal, and advises the FASB and GASB. Her professional leadership roles include past presidencies of the Southwest Decision Science Institute and the Federation of Business Disciplines.
Dr. Fischer has received prestigious awards including the UT Tyler President’s Scholarly Achievement Award and the American Accounting Association’s Government and Nonprofit Section Lifetime Achievement Award. Her work bridges academia and practice, emphasizing GAAP updates and pedagogy.
