Mary Ellen Labrecque is an Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Nursing. She holds a PhD from the University of Saskatchewan (2008) and an advanced practice Nurse Practitioner (NP) degree from Athabasca University (2010). With over three decades of nursing experience, her practice spans acute care, addiction treatment, occupational health, and primary care in rural, northern, and Arctic communities.
Her academic roles include teaching and supervising students in the Master of Nursing Nurse Practitioner and PhD programs. She has served as Director of the Nurse Practitioner program, Associate Dean Prince Albert and Northern Campuses, and Associate Dean Academic within the College of Nursing. Her research focuses on rural/remote nursing practice, advanced practice nursing, and primary health care addressing population health determinants.
Methodologically, she employs qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods. Courses taught include Theory for Advanced Practice Nursing Roles (NURS 883), Advanced Health Assessment (NURS 884), and Transition to Nursing Practice (NURS 875). She actively contributes to external committees such as the CCRNR NPR-FIPP Advisory Panel, advocating for nurse practitioner practice expansion.
