Mary Deasy

Dr. Mary Deasy serves as Senior Lecturer, Head of Research for TU Dublin's Tallaght campus, and Manager of the Centre of Applied Science for Health. With over 30 years at the institution (joined 1993), she brings significant industrial R&D experience from Syntex/Roche in Ireland and California.

Her educational background includes:

• Honours Degree in Chemistry from University College Cork
• PhD in Chemistry (collaboration with Loctite on novel binding agents) from University College Cork

Dr. Deasy's research integrates Supramolecular Chemistry with practical health applications through Calixarenes and Host-guest systems. Her group develops Biosensors for chemical detection, Nanomaterials for antimicrobial therapies, and Electrocatalysts while exploring environmental remediation using macromolecules. This work bridges fundamental organic chemistry with translational health solutions.

As an educator, she pioneered professional accreditation for forensic science programs and teaches core organic chemistry/pharmaceutical processing courses. Her leadership extends to managing institutional research reviews and degree-awarding authority applications.

Dr. Deasy supervises Master's and Doctoral researchers through her Centre of Applied Science for Health, with current projects focused on antimicrobial drug design, biomedical coatings, and environmental applications. Her industry background ensures research maintains strong practical relevance to pharmaceutical and materials challenges.
