Dr Mary Boyle is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, serving as Outreach Coordinator for German and a Fellow/Tutor at St Edmund's College. Her work focuses on cross-cultural Anglo-German medievalism, medieval comparative literature, and the interplay of text, image, and material objects in manuscripts. She holds a D.Phil (Oxford) and has held prestigious fellowships including the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship (2020-2024) and the Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship (2017-2020).
Her research explores medieval German and English literature, religious writing, and the adaptation of medieval texts in the 19th century. Key projects include co-founding Teaching the Codex, an interdisciplinary initiative in manuscript studies. Publications span monographs like Writing the Jerusalem Pilgrimage in the Late Middle Ages and edited volumes such as International Medievalisms.
Recent articles analyze textual adaptations of medieval epics like Kudrun and Nibelungenlied, focusing on gender dynamics, cultural memory, and cross-cultural exchanges. Boyle’s work bridges medieval and modern studies, addressing contemporary relevance through historical narratives.
