Mary Beth Privitera is Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, holding a PhD in Medical Device Design from Loughborough University. Her research integrates industrial design, human factors engineering, and clinical medicine to develop safer medical devices.
Her research focuses on:
- Human-centered design methodologies for medical technology
- Usability validation and regulatory strategy
- Extended reality applications in healthcare
- Surgical instrument innovation
She has supervised 20+ graduate students on medical device projects, resulting in multiple patents and commercialized products. Her research has been supported by NIH, NSF, and industry partners, totaling $3M+ in funding. Awards recognize excellence in engineering education and medical device innovation.
She co-directs the Collaborative to Create Medical Devices (c2c:MD) and contributes to AAMI human factors standards development. Her laboratory focuses on clinical workflow integration of novel technologies.
