Mary Ann Heiss is a Professor and Chair in the Department of History at Kent State University. She holds a B.A. and M.A. from Miami University and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. Her research focuses on US foreign relations, particularly Anglo-American dynamics and Cold War history. She has authored award-winning books including Fulfilling the Sacred Trust (2020) and edited volumes on NATO, the Third World, and Cold War doctrines. She currently serves as Archivist for the Ohio Academy of History and previously led the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) as its president (2022-2023).
Dr. Heiss teaches courses on global Cold War history, America’s international role, and 20th-century world history. Her current research includes studies on Anglo-American imperial visions (1945-1956), Cold War presidential doctrines, and Queen Mary’s Carpet’s cultural significance. She actively contributes to scholarly organizations, including the Truman Library Institute’s Board of Directors and editorial roles for Diplomatic History.
