Mary Alpaugh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences at Rowan University's College of Science & Mathematics. Her research focuses on cancer biology, particularly the molecular mechanisms of intravasation (the rate-limiting step of metastasis) and therapeutic resistance in inflammatory breast cancer (IBC).
- Education: BS in Biology & Philosophy from King’s College, PhD in Biochemical & Biophysical Sciences from the University of Houston, and postdoctoral training in Pathology at UCLA.
Dr. Alpaugh developed MARY-X, the first human transplantable IBC xenograft model that recapitulates lymphovascular emboli. This work provides critical preclinical platforms for drug development targeting metastatic disease. Her publications include studies on protein quantitation, epichaperome networks, diagnostic criteria for IBC, and pharmacodynamic analyses of caged xanthones.
Her research spans disciplines including biochemistry, oncology, medicinal chemistry, and systems biology. Key subfields include metastasis modeling, tumor progression, and therapeutic targeting of lymphovascular emboli. She collaborates with institutions like the University of California, Los Angeles and the American Association for Cancer Research.
