Martín Fonck is a Postdoc Researcher in the Sociology of Science at the Department of Science, Technology and Society (STS) within the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology at the Technical University of Munich. His research focuses on environmental technologies, energy futures, and the socio-cultural dimensions of geosciences. He holds a doctorate from the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society and the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology at LMU Munich.
His research explores the future of environmental technologies through ethnographic and historical lenses, with emphases on geothermal energy, carbon storage, and institutional transformations in the climate crisis context. He has conducted fieldwork in Chile’s Andes region and collaborated with the Research Institute for Sustainability (Helmholtz Center Potsdam), bridging scientific, artistic, and societal perspectives on energy transitions.
Key publications include studies on geothermal energy in Chile, decolonial approaches to energy futures, and the socio-technical dynamics of subterranean exploration. Fonck’s work intersects environmental anthropology, science studies, and policy analysis, addressing themes like energy justice, geological affect, and multispecies ecologies.
