Martyn Wemyss is a Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at Goldsmiths, University of London. His research focuses on legal and normative orders in the Bolivian Altiplano, exploring the interplay between official legal systems and indigenous laws. His work examines liminal legal spaces, legal aesthetics, and the material lives of norms, alongside broader interests in indigeneity and political imaginary.
As Programme Convenor for the BA Anthropology & Sociology, he contributes to academic leadership. His recent publications span interdisciplinary topics: one investigates gambling advertising impacts in the UK, while another analyzes cultural symbolism through Michael Jackson's influence in Bolivia.
Research interests include law's relationship with time, justice aesthetics, and the socio-political dimensions of legal pluralism. His doctoral thesis on human rights and legal subjectivity in Bolivia is being developed into a monograph.
