Martyn Harry is Professor of Composition at the University of Oxford, with tutorial responsibilities at St Anne's College and St Hilda's College. His creative practice spans contemporary classical composition, music theatre, experimental opera, and film scoring. Professional experience includes serving as Executive Producer for New Music at Sony Classical (1993-1996), where he produced recordings for composers including Louis Andriessen and Terry Riley.
He holds a Ph.D. in Composition from City University, studying under Simon Emmerson and Michael Finnissy, following earlier studies with Alexander Goehr at Cambridge University and Mauricio Kagel in Cologne. As Northern Arts Composer Fellow (2000-2003), he created innovative community engagement projects including children's operas for Theatre Hullabaloo and developed Durham University's Opera and Music Theatre course.
His compositions have been performed internationally by ensembles including London Sinfonietta, BBC Singers, and Northern Sinfonia. Notable works include 'Ozymandias' for cello and piano, 'Regenstimmen' for solo harp, and theatrical pieces like 'Restraint for Handcuffed Pianist.' Current projects include SOUTH, an opera-film hybrid on Antarctic climate change.
