Martyn Biddiscombe

Dr. Martyn Biddiscombe is a senior Medical Physicist and research expert affiliated with the National Heart & Lung Institute at Imperial College London's Faculty of Medicine. He holds a PhD from University College London (UCL) and has over 30 years of clinical research experience in aerosol science, pulmonary drug delivery, and therapeutic inhalation technologies such as gamma scintigraphy, IOS, and MBNW. His work has significantly influenced the development of modern inhaler devices and improved understanding of aerosol deposition in diseases like asthma, COPD, and pulmonary fibrosis.

His research focuses on particle size effects in drug delivery, aerosol deposition dynamics, and collaborations with pulmonologists. Notable recent projects include studies on coronal ions from powerlines and childhood leukemia (with the University of Bristol), inhaled drug delivery in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, and contributions to the EU-funded MyAirCoach project for patient health management tools. He actively participates in global standardization efforts through the ISAM Working Group on Regulatory Affairs.
