Dr. Marty Rhoades is an Associate Professor of Environmental Science in the Department of Agricultural Sciences at the Paul Engler College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, West Texas A&M University. He joined the university in 1999 and has been actively involved in teaching and research.
Dr. Rhoades' educational background:
- B.S. in Animal Science from West Texas State University (1992)
- M.S. in Plant Science from West Texas A&M University (2001)
- Ph.D. in Agriculture from West Texas A&M University (2009)
Dr. Rhoades' research focuses on environmental aspects of agriculture, particularly in the area of waste management and emissions from concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). His current projects include studying tillage effects on gaseous emissions from manure and compost applied to forage crops, and characterizing greenhouse gases from beef CAFOs such as pen surfaces and retention ponds. He is also developing abatement measures and best management practices to reduce ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, greenhouse gases, and odorous emissions.
In addition to his research and teaching, Dr. Rhoades serves as the Waste and Biological Management faculty manager for the Department of Agriculture and Natural Sciences and as the PSES Program Coordinator.
Dr. Rhoades conducts his research within the department's research initiatives, including the Feedlot Research Group and the Beef Carcass Research Center.
