Martino Ruggieri

Martino Ruggieri is a Full Professor of General and Specialist Pediatrics at the University of Catania and has been Chairman of Pediatrics since 2015. He serves as Director of the Pediatric Clinic Unit and the School of Specialization in Pediatrics, with prior roles including Associate Professor and Senior Researcher at the CNR Institute of Neurological Sciences. His expertise spans pediatric neurology, neurogenetics, and rare diseases.

• PhD in Pediatric Sciences and Post-doctorate in Pediatric Neurology/Neurogenetics (University of Catania and Oxford, 2000)

His research focuses on neurocutaneous disorders, immune-mediated nervous system diseases in childhood, complex malformation syndromes, and historical aspects of pediatrics. He has edited major treatises including Pediatric Neurology and Neurocutaneous Disorders. Syndromes named after him include Ruggieri-Happle and Ruggieri-Leech syndromes.

Scientific leadership roles include President of the Italian Scientific Committees for Neurofibromatosis and Sturge-Weber Syndrome, Founding Member of the International Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis Study Group, and membership on the International Panel revising neurofibromatosis diagnostic criteria.
