Martina Karels is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Arts at St. Francis College. Her research focuses on public memory, digital media culture, and performance studies. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh and has conducted fieldwork on 9/11 remembrance, Iraqi Kurdistan prison museums, and Argentine women-led theatre activism.

Her Clayoquot Lives project collaborates with scholars to archive the 1993 Clayoquot Sound Peace Camp, emphasizing DIY academic archiving ethics. This work has been published in Australian Feminist Studies and forms the basis of an upcoming Palgrave Macmillan book.
Teaching emphasizes critical analysis of media's societal impact, including digital media, pop culture, and media ethics in a digitized world.
