Martina Gajdos

Martina Gajdos is a Lecturer at the Institute of African Studies, University of Vienna, specializing in African linguistics and culture with a focus on the Fulani people and Fulfulde language. Her academic work spans multiple disciplines within African Studies.

Her research interests center on Fulfulde language structure and usage, Fulani culture across West Africa, and cross-cultural communication patterns. She has developed expertise in analyzing symbolic content in official texts across different cultural contexts and examining ritual patterns in verbal and nonverbal expressions based on African languages.

Dr. Gajdos teaches courses including Symbols & Symbolic Contents in Official Texts, From Senegal to the Sudan Fulani Language, and Ritual Patterns in Verbal and Nonverbal Expressions. Her teaching approach emphasizes the specific linguistic features of African languages and their cultural contexts.

She has authored specialist books on Fulfulde language, including a German-Fulfulde-German dictionary, and has been featured as an Africanist expert in various media outlets including OKTO, OE1, and YouTube.

Her fieldwork focuses on the Sahel zone, particularly Mali, Senegal, and Burkina Faso, where she studies Fulɓe society and culture. She also applies her expertise in conflict management and social studies to contemporary issues in these regions.
