Martina Althoff is an Associate Professor of Criminology at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Law, Department of Criminal Law and Criminology. She holds a PhD from the University of Bremen and has held academic positions at German universities including Siegen, Bremen, and Hildesheim. Her research focuses on gendered violence (particularly femicide), societal reactions to crime, media discourse, and detention policies. She is affiliated with multiple editorial boards, including the 'Tijdschrift over Cultuur en Criminaliteit' and 'Kriminologisches Journal', and serves on the Research Ethics Review Committee (CETOR).
