Martin Zettersten is Assistant Professor of Cognitive Science at UCSD, directing the Language and Infant Learning (LIL) Lab. His research investigates language acquisition mechanisms including statistical learning, cross-situational word learning, and infant information-seeking behaviors. Zettersten employs eye-tracking, behavioral experiments, and large-scale collaborations to study developmental trajectories.
He earned his PhD at University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed postdoctoral training at Princeton University. Research focuses on:
- Active information-seeking in language learning
- Developmental changes in word recognition
- Category learning through verbal labels
- Big-team science approaches
Zettersten co-leads the Peekbank project, an open repository of developmental eye-tracking data. His work examines how linguistic labels facilitate conceptual development across childhood.
