Ron Pomper is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at Michigan State University where he directs the Language Learning Lab.
Dr. Pomper's research focuses on how children learn language across various developmental trajectories including typical development, Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He employs behavioral responses and eye-tracking methodologies to measure different aspects of children's word learning abilities, with recent work investigating how children form detailed representations of speech sounds. His research bridges cognitive science, linguistics, and clinical practice in speech-language pathology.
Dr. Pomper completed his postdoctoral fellowship with Karla McGregor in the Word Learning Lab at Boys Town National Research Hospital and earned his PhD with Jenny Saffran in the Infant Learning Lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has developed computational tools including a Shiny application for phonological analysis of real and novel words, demonstrating his interdisciplinary approach to language research.
