Dr. Martin Whyte is an Associate Professor of Metabolic Medicine at the University of Surrey's School of Biosciences. He combines NHS consultant work with academia, specializing in insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. His research explores metabolic pathways and disparities in diabetes treatment across ethnic groups. He has supervised 14 postgraduate students and currently leads four PhD supervisions.
Education: MBBS from King's College Hospital, PhD in insulin's metabolic effects during critical illness (Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospital), and CCT in Diabetes/Endocrinology and General Medicine.
Teaching: Module organizer for 'Nutrition in Diabetes & Clinical Diseases' and 'Obesity, Lipids, and Cardiovascular Disease' at the MSc in Nutritional Medicine. Focuses on integrating clinical practice with academic research.
